Split Pea & Ham Soup

Split pea soup made with Mae's Seasonings Garlic Lovers. This makes a large pot so enough to feed a crowd or put in containers and freeze.

Ingredients
  

  • 1.5 kg smoked pork hock 
  • Olive oil 
  • 2 onions, diced 
  • 2 cups chopped celery 
  • 3 cups chopped carrots 
  • 1 tbsp Mae’s Seasonings Garlic Lovers 
  • 3 1/2 cups split green peas 
  • 12 cups chicken broth 

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 300 F. Place ham hock in a baking dish with some water and cook for 1 hour.
  • Meanwhile in a large frypan over medium - high heat, sauté onions, celery and carrots in oil until lightly browned. Add in Garlic Lovers and cook for 1 minute. Transfer to a large pot.
  • Add in split peas and chicken stock and stir to combine. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low and cook for 90 minutes.
  • Once ham is done, place it in the soup. Once the soup has thickened remove the ham hock and set aside to cool. Once cool enough to handle, shred and place back in soup.
  • If soup is too thick add some water.
  • This soup freezes well if you have leftovers.
