Irish Beef Stew

Beef Stew made with Mae's Seasonings Steak Spice and Guinness Beer. This can also be made in sourdough bread bowls if you wish.

Ingredients
  

  •  1 1/2 pounds stewing beef 
  • 2 tbsp Mae’s Seasonings Steak Spice 
  • 4 tbsp flour 
  • 1/2 tsp salt 
  • Oil for frying 
  • 1 onion, coarsely chopped 
  • 6 - 8 garlic cloves, minced 
  • 3 celery ribs, coarsely chopped 
  • 3 - 4 carrots, coarsely chopped 
  • 3 - 4 potatoes, coarsely chopped 
  • 2 cans (440 ml each) Guinness Beer 
  • 4 cups beef broth 
  • 2 - 3 tsp kitchen bouquet browning sauce* 
  • 8 tbsp flour 
  • 4 tbsp canola oil 

Instructions
 

  • Cut up beef into 1 inch pieces. Then in a large bowl, mix together Steak Spice, flour and salt. Add in beef and toss to coat pieces.
  • Heat oil in a large frypan on medium heat. Cook beef until lightly browned. Transfer to a large pot.
  • Add in onion, garlic, celery, carrots, potatoes, Guinness and beef broth. Stir to combine and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 4 - 6 hours or until beef is very tender. Add in browning sauce.
  • In a small bowl, mix together flour and oil to make a roux. Add in stew until thickened slightly.
  • *You can find kitchen bouquet in your spice department of your local grocery store.
