A mocha is the marriage of coffee and chocolate. To make a good mocha depends on the ratios of each. Mae’s Seasonings has the perfect ratio of coffee and chocolate and then with the addition of candy canes which makes this a great drink for the holidays. This also makes a great stocking stuffer. A mocha may appeal to people who don’t like a strong coffee beverage because with the addition of chocolate it doesn’t have a strong coffee flavour. And the great thing about this mix is you can make this at home instead of going to your local coffee shop.

The name mocha originated from the Yemeni port of Mokha, which was a port well known for its coffee trade from the 15^th to 17^th century. Chocolate has been combined with coffee after a chocolate drink was introduced to Italy in the 17^th century. However, prior to 1900s, a Mocha referred to Yemeni coffee and the meaning began to change around the turn of the 20^th century with recipes started appearing in the 1920s. The mocha became even more popular in the 1950s when people could make these with instant coffee which increased their popularity and was usually served as an after-dinner drink.

You could also add this to your holiday baking like gingerbread cookies for a twist on ginger cookies for the holidays. Also, a great addition to chocolate brownies and in chocolate crinkle cookies. Also great in gingerbread cake or loaves or candy cane cheesecakes.

Another great addition to our candy cane mocha would be to add some of our gingerbread spice for a twist.

SUGGESTED USAGE: Mix 1 tbsp with a mug of boiling water. Stir in some coffee cream. Serve with whipped cream if desired. Or if you prefer an iced coffee drink add some ice cubes.
